01 Overview & our commitment

myTribes is built on a simple premise: that genuine connection happens when who you are matters more than how you appear. This philosophy extends to how we handle your data.

We collect the minimum information necessary to operate the app. We do not sell your data. We do not build advertising profiles. We do not share your information with third parties for marketing purposes.

The anonymity that defines myTribes — where you are only known by a color — is not just a product feature. It is a privacy commitment backed by how we architect, store, and protect your data.

This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect when you use myTribes, how we use it, and the rights you have regarding your information. By using myTribes, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.

03 Information we do not collect

As important as what we collect is what we deliberately do not collect. myTribes does not collect:

By design

Because myTribes only allows text and emojis in chat — and assigns users anonymous colors rather than identities — many common privacy risks associated with social platforms simply cannot arise here.


04 How we use your information

We use the information we collect solely to provide, maintain, and improve myTribes. Specifically:

We do not use your information to serve you advertisements, build a behavioral profile, or train AI/ML models on your personal messages without your explicit consent.


05 How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We do not share your data with third parties for advertising or marketing. We may share limited information in the following circumstances:

Service providers. We use trusted third-party vendors to help operate myTribes (e.g. cloud hosting, analytics, crash reporting). These vendors process data only on our behalf, under strict data processing agreements, and are not permitted to use your data for their own purposes.

Within tribes. Your chat messages are visible to other current members of your tribe. Your assigned color is visible to tribe members. No other personal information is shared within the tribe. When a tribe ends, chat history is no longer accessible to other members.

Legal compliance. We may disclose information if required to do so by law, court order, or governmental authority — or if we believe in good faith that disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of myTribes, our users, or the public.

Business transfers. If myTribes is acquired by or merged with another company, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you before your information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.


06 Anonymity & tribe design

The core design of myTribes is built to protect your anonymity within the app. Here is how:

We are aware that no system is perfectly anonymous. Patterns of speech can sometimes identify individuals. We encourage users to be mindful of what personal information they voluntarily share in chat.


07 Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active and as needed to provide the service.

When you delete your account, your email address and account credentials are removed. Chat messages you sent within active or recently ended tribes will be anonymized (your color will be replaced with a generic "former member" label) rather than deleted, as deleting individual messages from a shared conversation would break the conversational record for remaining members.


08 Security

We take reasonable and appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, alteration, or disclosure. These include:

No method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure. While we work to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact us immediately at the address below.


09 Children's privacy

myTribes is not directed at children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Users between the ages of 13 and 17 may use myTribes only with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian.

If we learn that we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete that information promptly. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us at the address in Section 13.

In jurisdictions where the age of digital consent is higher than 13 (such as certain EU member states where the GDPR sets the age at 16), we require users to meet the applicable local age of consent.


10 Your rights & choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal information. Regardless of jurisdiction, we offer all users the following:

California residents (CCPA/CPRA). You have the right to know what personal information is collected, disclosed, or sold; to delete personal information; to opt out of the sale of personal information (we do not sell personal information); and to non-discrimination for exercising these rights.

EEA, UK, and Swiss residents (GDPR). You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability, and the right to object. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local supervisory authority.

11 Apple App Store disclosure

The following disclosures are provided in accordance with Apple's App Store privacy requirements (App Privacy labels).

Data used to track you: None. myTribes does not use any data to track you across other companies' apps or websites.

In-app purchases. If myTribes offers in-app purchases, all payment processing is handled by Apple. We do not collect or store payment card information. Apple's privacy policy governs the processing of payment data.

Push notifications. myTribes may send push notifications for tribe activity (new messages, flame events, tribe health warnings). You can manage notification permissions at any time in your iPhone's Settings → Notifications → myTribes.

12 Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. If we make material changes — particularly changes that affect your rights or how we use your data — we will notify you through the app or by email before the changes take effect.

Your continued use of myTribes after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy. If you do not agree with the updated policy, you should delete your account before the changes take effect.
